Prof. Ioannis Iglezakis

Ioannis Iglezakis is elected Professor of Law & Informatics at the School of Law in the Aristotle University in Thessaloniki (Greece) and an Attorney-at-law at the Thessaloniki Bar Association. He is currently Director in the Postgraduate Department of Legal Theory and Interdisciplinary Law Studies and a Member of the Office of the Dean of the School of Law of Thessaloniki

Prof. Iglezakis received his Ph.D. from the University of Thessaloniki in 1999 (summa cum laude) with a dissertation on Legal Expert Systems, and he holds Master’s degrees from the University of Thessaloniki (1992) and the University of Hannover, Germany (1993). In the academic year 2003-2004, he conducted postdoctoral research in data protection law in the University of Thessaloniki. He was a research assistant in the Faculty of Law at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (2002–2003) and Visiting Lecturer (2003–2009). In 2009, he was elected Assistant Professor, receiving his tenure in 2014. One year later (in 2015) he was elected Associate Professor. He is widely published in Greece and has authored many studies in international legal reviews. His research interests include I.T. law, legal informatics, media law, economic and EU law. He is a member of the editorial team of Greek legal journals. He has published eleven (11) books and over 1560 articles, in Greek, German and English, and has also edited several books published in English (Legal and Socioeconomic Aspects of Intrusion, IGI (2009); E-Publishing and Digital Libraries: Legal and Organizational Issues, IGI (2010); Values and Freedoms in Modern Information Law & Ethics. Proceedings of the 4th International Conference on Information Law and Ethics (2011); Proceedings of the 6th International Conference on Information Law and Ethics (2015); Cyberlaw in Greece, Kluwer Law International (2015); Legal Regulation of Cyber Attacks, Kluwer Law International, (2016); Digital Tools for Computer Production and distribution, IGI Publishing (2016), Media Law in Greece, Kluwer Law International (2016).

He has organized international conferences (ICIL, Thessaloniki 2011, https://icil.gr/2011/, Thessaloniki 2014, https://icil.gr/2014/) and a Conference in Greece, Thessaloniki 2013, http://diafaneia.ee.auth.gr/sites/default/files/Programma_Synedrio_Igglezakis.pdf), and has participated in several Greek and International Conferences.

He has worked in several EU-funded projects related to Information, e-commerce, intellectual property, data protection, consumer protection and comparative law, including hands-on experience in conducting legal gap analysis and/or supporting the transposition of EU directives into national legislation in the EU pre-accession context, as well as in the framework of EU-internal support projects. He was a partner in the EU-funded project “Greek Cybercrime Center” (http://www.cybercc.gr), which is a national project with the task to improve research and education in the field of cybercrime (2013-2015). Currently, he is a consultant in the EU-project “Monitoring and Detecting OnLine Hate Speech (Mandola)” http://mandola-project.eu/). He served as an Expert of the Ethical Advisory Board in the REVEAL project (https://revealproject.eu/) and a Member in the Advisory Board of Safer Internet (http://www.saferinternet.gr/), as well as advisor in other international projects.

Vasiliki Samartzi, PhD, LLM (UCL)

Vasiliki is an information technology law expert, holding a PhD from the Centre for Commercial Law Studies (CCLS), Queen Mary, University of London, under the supervision of Prof. Chris Reed, as a Greek State Scholarships Foundation (SSF/IKY) scholar. She graduated from the Faculty of Law of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (Greece) (LLB) and holds an LLM in Commercial Law from the University of Bristol (UK) and an LLM in Computer & Communications Law from the University College London (UCL). Vasiliki has considerable professional experience as an IT-specialized lawyer and also considerable academic experience having taught law courses in top-tier law schools & having published several peer-reviewed articles in internationally acclaimed law journals.

Eleftheria Papadimitriou

Eleftheria Papadimitriou is a Surpeme Court Lawyer in Greece specializing in Information and new Technologies Law. She is further specialized in Privacy, e-Commerce, Consumer Protection and Intellectual Property issues. She is an accredited Mediator and Trainer for Mediators and International Online Dispute Resolution Mediator (Consumer, Commercial, Personal Data and Intellectual Property disputes). She is a PhD candidate in the Law School of Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (Legal Informatics) and research scholar – State Scholarships Foundation.

She is the founder of «Ria Papadimitriou and Associates Law Office» and Founder and General Director of “startADR”, an Alternative Dispute Resolution Institute (startadr.org).

Evgenia Smyrnaki

Evgenia Smyrnaki is a lawyer, graduated from the Law Department of the University of Athens. She holds a Master’s Degree in “Bioethics” (University of Crete) and a degree in Information and Communication Law (LLM in Computer and Communications Law – Queen Mary University of London).

She has participated in national and European projects related to the availability and exploitation of open data sets, the development of open academic courses and free software and open source software (EL/LAC).
